You know it is bad...

You know it is bad when people randomly come up and tell you, "It wasn't that bad."

Those of you who were in my ward today already know what I am talking about.

For the rest of you... this is what happened...

I was asked to fill in for the organist in sacrament meeting. The opening hymn was not only an uncommon one, it was an incredibly difficult one to play on the organ due to the bass cleff notes that were all over the place. To put a long story short, I COMPLETELY BOTCHED the hymn. Once I missed a few notes I just got all flustered, and I just couldn't get anything right. I hate to admit this, but it was so bad that I literally wanted to cry. I knew the congregation had to have noticed, but it was just more and more confirmed to me as the day went on. The bishop even said over the pulpit, "We want to thank Sister Scott for filling in on the organ. We all know it is hard to fill in when we keep switching the hymns at the last minute." (Obviously, he wouldn't have said that if I had actually played the hymn well, or at least semi-well.) After sacrament meeting I had several people come up and say things like, "It wasn't that bad" and other such well intentioned words. One woman, who is rather quiet and has never even spoken to me before actually took me by the arm and said, "You are so brave. I just felt so bad for you up there."

So, yeah, it was bad. But thank-you to all those of you who tried to make me feel like it wasn't that bad.

Oh Lacey - I definitely know how you feel. I have botched so many songs that I don't think they will ever ask me to play again - EVER. I feel your pain. At least you can play the organ - which is more that what most people can say.

Oh Lace, so much for the candy-crusted sugar-coating! You're wonderful...happens to the best of us.

Still lovin' Jossie's gift! Thanks so much!

I know it takes so much courage to get up and play the organ. I have friends that play for our ward, and they tell me they are nervous every Sunday. It is very frustrating to the congretion as well when we have to sing these songs we don't even know. At least you said yes to filling in at the last moment. I doubt anyone will even remember when you go to church next Sunday. You are amazing!

Oh how funny about the organ! I love your house pictures and the color of paint that you painted your rooms. I had to look at that again. Also your crafts and projects. It was so fun to see you in St. Joseph. Thanks for driving all that way to see us. We soooooooo enjoyed it. You and Sam are so cute and fun.

Oh poor Lacey...that sounds like a time I played the piano in relief society and completely had to stop playing because I couldn't get the notes right. This past Sunday I also did music time in primary and seriously didn't know any of the words to the songs. Of course all the kids are watching my lips so it was a horrible experience. I keep telling my ward I'm not musically inclined but they keep asking me to do stuff...I guess they're desperate. I got your message, i'll call you this week:D

That story made me laugh so hard! It's a typical Lacey story. I'm sorry that you had to fill in on the organ. I can't even begin to imagine how hard that is. Good job though!

At least you have the talent to play the organ. And I had already totally forgotten about it. In fact, I barely noticed--probably b/c Isabella always keeps me on my toes during Sacramen meeting. AND, as Kiera said, you are totally the hottest girl in the ward, and that always trumps any oopsies :)

Oh that stinks! I wasn't there of course and I'm sure it wasn't as bad as you may have thought it was. Hey people probably at least started paying attention to the hymn! :)

You are so funny. Have you heard me play piano in the primary?!? Who better to make mistakes in front of than people there for church to learn about not judging and charity...just kidding. It REALLY wasn't that bad...

Seriously..playing the organ must be the most difficult thing in the whole world. Every week I marvel at the women who get up there each Sunday. I know organists who practice at the church everyday for Sunday.
Just before you got up to play the opening song I heard Bro. Tallant say.."Oh, Looks like Lacey is playing today" and then his guest said, "Oh, I feel for her because that opening song is so difficult to play." She said that before you even started playing it...knowing that it was hard. I have to give you props girl...you are really talented. That organ is scaarrryyy.
You rock.

I am sorry. If it makes you feel better I truly wouldn't have noticed. I am musically retarded :) I have heard you play the piano before and you are fabulous!!!

Oh Lacey - I'm sooooo sorry. At least you have the talent to play most anything let alone try it on the organ. I was once told that the organ is one of the trickest instruments to play. Don't worry, I'm sure every is first glad that you are there to fill in (last minute of course) and second that they don't have to do it. Good luck next time! :)

Hey, that is a good way to never get asked to play again! I might try that next time =). I know you are very musically talented...the organ is just one of those things you have to practice to play so being asked last minute would throw ANYBODY for a loop!
